I think we should bring ourselves into the current century and use a discord server. Its features suit that of a gaming server and is widely used. It would be a great tool for admins, as people can upload attachments. There are voice channels, text channels and mini forum discussion channels. Discord is also very easy to hook into any webapps, maybe even the BitterBot. I have made a mockup, an unofficial OutTact discord server, as a demonstration. The screenshots are below, and if you wanna join the unofficial one until when/if an official one is made. The invite link is as follows https://discord.gg/DvTVxXaese if you are a member you'll be given the membership rank, same if an admin joins the appropriate rank will be given. Suspect a cheater? Drag them into a room and they share their entire screen.  A player comes in to report that they need an admin in-game urgently. They just type @otac then message. Example: @OTaC There's a hacker running rampant, and there are no admins in-game. This will message all players with the otac rank/role. All except admins who turn off their notifications for this @ing the OTaC role. Or the player has abused @OTaC in the past and has been restricted from @ing roles.

That would only work if the suspected cheater is also on the discord server I think, but I am not what anyone would call technologically proficient |

Call me old-fashioned but I prefer our server as it is. However, if you want a discord server, you are free to make and run your own - but, if you do, please don't use this server's name. |

Hey! As someone who always look to improve the game or the capabilities for the game, i like this so far. The concept, the idea. As External Player, or casual player in the Outtac server i really would like have this features avalaible. not just to make it more complete, the game, the scene, also, the interactivity between people, etc. And of course, i love it!. To me, seems a great thing for Outtac!- Plus if you take in mind, the game is almost 20 years old, and is not probably gettijng much more improvements from anywhere, so, this one, could be an interesting thing to get a step more and maybe give to the game a bit longer life between new players, or the new generation of players. Just say finally, that probably the future of the game is going to be possible thanks people who tries new things and improve the limits. Goow Job EarlyBird! Greetings! I understand your point of view, there is no downside of having both as Discord is free. Regarding the naming, I made the server as an interactive demonstration for people who want to explore what the benefits of us having a Discord server are. I have made sure to let people know it's an unofficial server. Also that if any admins do come and test things out not to put anything sensitive in the rooms as the bird sees all. ------------------

It won't always be possible, but on the occasions when they are in, a PC check would be a fantastic tool. I'm looking at what the Discord could be, for example with Bitterbot integration you could see your level and stats inside discord. Or maybe even have team sided voice chats. While still having the global voice in-game. Edit: The built in overlay works well with cod too. Opening the overlay allows the user to switch rooms, and continue using text chat and read PMs. etc ------------------

I just want to clarify, that this is not an official OutTact discord server. Its main purpose is a sort of live demonstration of how discord could work within the community and its many benefits. This is also stated as a pinned message when you first join the server. Come and join and try the overlay system. I'm unsure if TS has an in-built one at the moment, so with Discord it could be useful to quickly check messages or change channels all without tabbing out in-game. ------------------

There's a plugin called Teamcord, made for TS so that players using both Discord and Teamspeak can continue to communicate despite the difference in platforms. https://community.teamspeak.com/t/plugin -teamcord-discord-bridge/10804 For the ones who just can't bare leaving Teamspeak but want to chat with those who made the switch

I'm not against or for Discord ( I just don't use it) but we have TS available to us as admin and is provided to us by the clan. While there are some benefits for Discord I'd like to see our admin use one platform for the sake of simplicity and consistency. It's hard enough getting all of the admin to use TS, yet alone getting them to use another additional platform. If a decision to use Discord rather than TS is rendered by the clan then I'll switch. Discord, as compared to Teamspeak, takes a lot of memory. Plus, the bandwidth usage is very high, which can affect your gaming experience. On the other hand, Teamspeak uses less memory, bandwidth and CPU, which helps gamers have a better gaming experience. If we are looking at Discord, it states in its policies that they may share your data in certain situations with certain apps and companies or on a legal basis. Teamspeak, on the other hand, doesn’t claim to share your data with anyone or even third-party apps. Voice channels; We have one, Text channels: The game has this as does TS Mini forum discussion: We have a website which we pay for. While change is common for the human animal, change isn't always necessary or beneficial. Change for the sake of change .... why? |

I see what you're saying Voodoo. Maybe the admin side of things can officially linger with TS. Discord is a free service with a great in-game overlay. With means of community building and a trusted platform that gamers instantly recognise. For the privacy wise like myself the privacy concerns you have, remember they can only legally share what you give them. You don't need to give any addresses or real names. The data sharing is mostly for the connected apps, when you login to a third-party website with discord etc. I remember when Skype was the best of the best for communication, and couldn't for the life of me understand why anyone would need anything different. So I stayed, and Skype was a wasteland of offline contacts. They'd all moved to the latest services. Maybe it is a human condition and maybe it's not an efficient one. But it's there and happening today. In terms of bandwidth, I don't imagine it's an issue in today's world of fast internet for all. But as with TS, you can set a bitrate on a channel-by-channel basis. Regarding the CPU and RAM concerns you speak of, I'm not noticing this high resource usage. Discord was made for gamers. ------------------

Money, not so much, Discord servers are free to create the basic server which is all we would need. If we wanted to grow it into a community server with logos, custom emoticons and a banner. People can 'boost' the server (Discord Nitro members can boost twice a month I think, or if you aren't Nitro you can pay to boost a server.) The thing I am most excited about when thinking about it is that Bitterbot can connect to the Discord server which could mean graphed-out skill levels that could be generated etc. ------------------
