I am ashamed (sort of, i'll explain) to inform that i'll be half as active on the server as half of my computers, (1 out of 2) are not able to run CoD WaW anymore and/or i can not find a way to get it working.

The ashamed sort of bit comes from the fact that i spend my free time fixing and troubleshooting other people's computers but for some reason i can do sh*t fo fix the issues of my own machine.

I allways had the "black screen" on startup issue on this machine, even in 2010 when i bought this and installed a fresh win 7 home premium (gosh darn it... the ammount of garbage that comes with new computers is inbelivable... out of the box win 7 took 5 minutes to boot...)

Already applied the most common solutions for the "black screen of dispair", namely set the sound to the lowest khz and bit setting, renaming the treyach.bik file, making a pentagon with cat blood and invoking satan himself to help with this sh*t ... (well, this last one not yet, need to find a cat that volunteers for this...)

Any help will be appreciated by both me and the cat.

computer specs:
NAME: Asus N61JV
CPU: Core i5 450M @2.4 GHZ/2.6GHZ when it feels like it...
GPU: nVidia GT235M + craptacular IntelHD from said CPU...
RAM: 8GB ddr3 kingston something or other @ 1066MHZ mostly unused...
SSD/HDD: kingston V+200 120GB / WD Black 320GB both old and slow but error free...

The computer is clean and thermal paste is decent (Noctua NT-H1) and recent (6 month old since i cleaned everything and replaced said thermal paste). Full load temperatures on the CPU max out at 65ºC and 60ºc on the GPU...
Windows is up to date... Windows 10 that is...

Any ideas are wellcome...

We are talking about a blackscreen when starting CoD, right?
If so, try plugging in some earphones without an USB connection but with a regular jack connection. Don't ask why.

been there, done that... disable my onboard sound and tried with the usb halfmann headset. No luck. unplugged the usb headset and went back to my phillips phones SPH1900 3.5mm jack phones. Same deal... disable all sound cards. No luck.

its not set to SHOW DESKTOP ONLY ON 2 is it? I mean, it is not trying to show the image on a 2nd screen that is not there, is it?

nope. i usually have teamspeak and rcon on my second monitor and was running the game in window mode on the laptop's monitor. Then the issues started. took out the 2nd monitor (made sure in the display settings, win 10 is weird...) still no luck. I got to the point that regardless of even having a config_mp or not in my profile folder, the game would not start. I am out of ideas.

I bet that if i go back to win 7 this will all go away, but i fix this damn things. I rather go trough this myself and then have a way to fix similar issues on other computers than having my PC flawless and be clueless about win 10...

It's not like a DirectX issue, right?

nope... reinstalled, uninstalled and reinstalled, other games run (world of tanks, portal, farming simulator, euro truck simulator)

I used the recovery from win 10 and did what should be equivalent to a reinstall (as in wipe everything) and the game runs... most of the time... still fails... i do not understand...

This could almost have endless causes.

Does it give an error at all? Does it load after leaving it for some time? Does it just not load?

I've had that issue too... Make a try in solo mode. any problem? I don't think the problem is related to you or to your machine.
my theory is that the game is hanging waiting connecction and data from a server.... Activision is spyng u!!!

First copy your player profile to a new folder.
Then delete the entire directory
It will be here:
C:\Documents and Settings\<username>\Local Settings\Application Data\Activision\CoDWaW\players\profiles
Start up the game again.
If that works, you are good, but you may lose all your levels from your profile.

Shut down the game.
Then, copy just the player profile (profile name) back to the same directory.

This may result in the same black screen and if so, just delete again and live with the fact you will have to level up again.

I've gone as far as deleting the Activision folder, so when the game starts reads the profiles associated with my serial key/guid/whatever identifies me in the autentication servers and asks me what profile i want to use. But when the game decides its black screen time, it's black screen time... I guess its a connection issue as the duck and kolly say... But seems to be very rare right now. But it will come back. Allways does. The fix has been reinstall/restore windows to a fresh install situation. And it could be a windows update f*ckup, but it has happened with windows 7, 8 and 10...

I had enough with windows 10 shenannigans... It installs updates when it wants and ruins my downlads and/or online games, Its hard to keep track of all the shite Microsoft put in there to keep track of me, takes too long to get the interface to look like i want, and makes my older games not work when it feels like it. SO I am back to windows 7 home premium, the OS this brought from factory. And guess what? No black screen of fuckery, not (many) things keeping tabs on me, for me to keep tabs on, takes longer to boot but feels faster after that.

I'll be back in business in the next few days i hope.

I think it might have to do with the RAM.
Just download some more.
It's worth the shot.
