Finally getting ready to upgrade this old PC / server I play on.

Asus m5a78l-m-usb3 - MB
AMD FX 6300 - CPU
32g RAM

Trying to go from my old RX 480 GPU to a (used) evga geforce gtx 1080 sc gaming acx 3.0

Problem is when I install it, I get a single POST beep (that's good) but No Signal to my monitor. Tried multiple GPU ports, monitors, known good cables, nothing. It's NOT O/S, I don't even see the BIOS screen.

Ideas?

TIA,
Jim

I would try reseating the graphics card first. If that doesn't work, maybe try swapping your old graphics card into the machine, just to see if you get a picture.

Could try reseating the RAM sticks for good measure, as well.

Use your old card, restart and Remove all graphic drivers and all trace files relating to AMD ATI than restart and start fresh if you can.

make sure if graphics card requires separate power supply cables that you have them plugged in.

actually looking at the specs for the mobo, i see it has integrated graphics (DVI,HDMI,VGA). connect the monitor to one of those ports first. Then boot up. You will likely have to setup in the bios that the nvidia card is the primary display so that boot info goes to it and not the integrated graphics

you may want to remove the nvidia card altogether, and prove that your mobo works by itself, then enable support for pcie slot graphics in the bios. THen you can add the nvidia card

after you get the nvidia card working as primary, there should be a bios setting to disable the onboard graphics on the mobo

Not sure that's the issue, I get no BIOS screens (no signal) so it's having problems before the OS even loads.

Thanks, it does and they are, just like the 480

I have the integrated graphics disabled in BIOS to use the 480. So you think go backwards first? Remove the 480, enable the onboard graphics, then add the 1080?

Did you install the nvidia drivers before you swapped cards?

I did not, but I am not even seeing the MB BIOS "Hit F2" screen, so at that point the drivers aren't even in play.

Ah, I mis-read that. I thought you got BIOS screens. Carry on.

yes go backward first. get the bios screen without the 1080, using onboard. then look to enable the 1080 in the bios.
if you have a second vid card to try that helps, or if you can try the 1080 in another person's system.
I am trying to determine if your mobo or 1080 is bad or if it is just a configuration issue.

I do remember doing this once where I had to boot to windows on onboard graphics with nvidia card installed, then install nvidia drivers and make it my main display. then reboot. I think that was due my needing to install a firmware upgrade to the bios using a windows utility, that had to happen prior to nvidia card being able to be main display. So if you have a way to check firmware on mobo that is a useful endeavor.
