Was just playing and there was a guy named "LesGoBrandon" which is a take on the "Lets Go Brandon" saying that Trump supporters in the United States have adopted to mean fuck Joe Biden. Totally inappropriate. We are supposed to have a rule about no politics, I pointed this out. The admins on at the time, Angus and Darth, did not understand, or chose to remain willfully ignorant and would not ask the person to change their name. There was even another player, Crazy56 I believe, who was making the same point I was, that the name needed to be changed. Crazy56 t even stated he was currently wearing a shirt with that saying on it and still thought the name should be changed due to its meaning and the server rule about no politics. Regardless of where you fall on the political spectrum, the server has a rule that politics are not allowed. I pointed this out several times and was eventually kicked by Darth for saying politics. Selective enforcement of your rules at best. This needs to be addressed and the rule needs to be enforced. Either the server has rules against politics, or it does not. Firstly, the server says "no bad words or racism" you are inventing the no politics rule which does not exist Pulling from our player database I see the names listed below.... There are many names that are political and there are far more anti-trump than anti-biden, but also know that disliking trump does not make you a biden supporter, nor does disliking biden make you a trump supporter. Regardless of your politics, it is okay to poke fun, and on the server we only ask that you share the common goal of enjoying the game. You have have been silent up to now..... for all the rest. There is a growing toxic tendency to cancel people of a certain political view. We don't need to cancel here at OTaC. I've never seen those other names when I've been playing. If I had, I would have said something. Love ya man, but your reply is a classic case of whataboutism. Just because someone else did something wrong, doesn't mean the next person in line should be able to as well. I'm all for making all those folks change their name. No politics should mean no politics. I love the server and don't want to see it descend into yet another place where the constant mudslinging of politics is inevitable. I was involved in politics for a large part of my life. Worked, not volunteered, worked on several campaigns. Ran for State Representative, as a Republican, myself back in 1996. It is a horrible, nasty business and has no place on a place where we go to have fun and escape reality for a bit. |

You are not being "cancelled." You are being asked to abide by a rule. Though others may have broken that rule in the past doesn't excuse current breaking of the rule. Especially for an Admin on the server it is a bad look to be using a profile name that goes against the rule forbidding politics. There is no "cancelling" here, your livelihood does not depend on you using that profile name. A name you chose knowing the reaction it could, and most likely would, cause. Frankly that is the very definition of trolling. You're tying to play the victim here and I'm not buying it, nor should anyone else. Call me intolerant, or whatever you want. I am not offended, or bothered by the phrase. What I am bothered by is the name being used in an instance where it is against a longstanding rule. People have freedom of thought and freedom of speech. Within limits, and one of those limits is private businesses, or in this instance individuals paying for a server to set rules they expect to be followed. However I have seen people kicked for discussing candidates, elections, etc.... Heck, I was even kicked for saying the word politics today. Perhaps it is just a "gentleman's agreement" or a guideline, or whatever word you want to use, but I have seen enforcement of the no politics rule/agreement/etc.... multiple times. I agree with Faces about people being warned and/or kicked for discussing politics. Also, Let's Go Brandon literally means F Joe Biden. Just because it doesn't have the F word in the name, it still means the same thing. So you were skirtkng the rules about foul language. It still infers the F word. There is no difference in saying Let's go Brandon and F Joe Biden as they are one in the same. I do believe, had it not been an admin, that person would have been told to change their name or get kicked for a bad name. That's not fair because clan members should ve held to the same standards as pubbers. I also want to note that, as I was saying yesterday, I was wearing a Let's Go Brandon T-shirt. |

I believe and find too much interpreted here, as a German I don't even know that certain names have such a meaning, I also have no problem when people talk about politics, only they should do it in the team chat or on Teamspeak and not all of them Time to spam the screen. |

I'd like to add my $1.50 to this conversation. ($1.40 added for inflation) #1) If you are warned about a particular topic in the "GAME CHAT" there is a specific reason for that. It causes issues and is not game related..period! This applies to many topics that can cause hot tempers. That kills a server! #2) If you ignore the request of admin to cease a particular discussion then yes, you may be removed, and that's directly related to my first point. 3) There have been many many semi and quasi political names and slander of those names over the last 2 years in this server, and at no time did ANYONE make a fuss over it. #4) Unless a name, or part of a name, is DIRECT SWEARING (ie: fuckyou), or is considered as INDIRECT SWEARING (ie: F-You) or is a disgusting name (I see no need to be disgusting..we all know what that means), or is directly insulting to a group of people, or is racist in nature (ie: the N word or other racist epithet) then it is generally allowed. I take personal offense to having the name of God or Jesus being used in a profane manner and in my mind would be perfectly justified in banning them as that is the actual definition of swearing. As you know we have a player who has used an off spelling of Jesus for quite some time (Gesus) and he is still here, still playing. In closing, we can nitpick over names all day long and still not come to a resolution, or we can go after the raw ignorant ones. I prefer the latter as we are not a designated "Christian" server and would have everyone jumping to rash decisions and illogical assumptions over a name. If you write politics in the game chat you're warned for using bad words. If people do it three times I kl them and if they continue to disrupt peoples game play by starting arguments about politics I give them the 5 text troll. ------------------

I'd suggest a spam message or some other notification to let them know because that "bad word" warning also comes up for the word "LAG".... and nobody pays attention to it. A simple " we don't discuss politics here, please save that for another chat system" usually works just fine as most don't really want to discuss it anyway. |
