I posted this on another thread but the questions were dodged and it turned personnal, which I respectfully wish to avoid here.

There are cod servers with anti-camping mechanics damaging players when they stay in the same area. Couldnt a similar detection logic be applied and put in a log callable with a command like !hist to check if the player actually remained in the same spot for a number of time/kills without having to babysit?

According to the rules page (https://outtact.net/index.php?mod=static&action=view&id=4) camping is considered a "Valid tactic". The server does not take issue with campers. The camping rules in place are because some players hate campers, so the rule is a balancing act.

I also get annoyed by campers but that does not mean that they are not allowed to do it. There are ways to deal with campers.

There should at least be a warning by the admins if they suspect someone of violating the camping rule (spamming !r6 is not enough, warn the exact player)

The admin should preferably be on the same team as the suspected camper or the admin should at least spectate the suspected camper. From my experience, kicking an opposing teams player for camping is usually a rage kick. It's understandable but keep in mind that it may drive away players.

Without turning the server into modded, I do not believe what you propose above is possible. Which is why admins don't wish to sit around babysitting players to ensure they are following the rule when players can do this themselves, but they do anyway when complaints come up in chat.

While !hist and !rate can help a lot in terms of seeing if a player is following the camping rule. The only real way is to babysit.

You're free to play the camp playstyle, just be open to questions if you have a vastly positive K/D.

IIII, your question wasn't dodged it simply didn't get responded to as other matters were being discussed at it got missed. What you are suggesting requires mods, and we won't be going in that direction as mods cause issues.

As has been explained we consider camping to be a valid tactic... to a point. When or if that tactic is abused in a game it creates choke points that are easily taken advantage of and create huge disadvantages to the opposing team. Careful movement isn't camping, it's moving tactically. Camping as defined in our rules is holding a position for an unreasonable amount of time, or to unfairly pad a players score, and this is why we have the 5 kill or 3 minutes camping rule.
We don't measure it out to the very second and we don't kick for a first offense. You are asked to move by an admin or given a warning asking you to move. If you chose to ignore it then you might be removed, but most likely given another opportunity to move along. We would rather have you stay and play and having to babysit players takes away from the admins game too.

What we as admins need to take note of is the history command was provided to disprove camping, not prove it. The only way to prove camping is top spectate the player in question.

As far as the history commands go, there are 2 !hist h8w or !showhist h8w. I suggest to all admins and I do this is use the second one. The !hist only shows it to the admins and otmc members if I remember correctly. Not sure about the otmc part. The !showhist shows it to the server population.

Not trying to pile on ... it is my impression that, dependent on time of day, the !hist is mis-used (based on the above discussion) to prove camping.

Especially when the admin perceives the player to be of inferior skill, but they still end up on the wrong side of the k/d ... not bringing anything really new to the discussion ... just hope the fact I rarely post is taken into consideration.

The reason I am posting ... didn't want to play the maps where I am fairly good with the same admin still playing ... so, I left the server. Will be back ... but would have been on atleast another 90-120 mins tonight.

I see the hist command most often used as way to prove a player was spawn camping. Quite often a kick is the result of seeing to K marks in the history

k stands for spawn kill

This is the thing about the K message. It gets missed in chatter or just completely overlooked everytime I type it out

The "K" (spawn kill) message ONLY appears if that player has died twice within 8 SECONDS.

It is not proof that a player is spawn camping. Its barely an indicator that an entire team may be spawning in that vicinity.

The spawns in WaW are notoriously bad. We all experience the extremely aggravating spawn, die, spawn, die, spawn, die.

Admins need to tie an extra length or two onto their fuse when they are in the middle of bad spawn cycles.

I do agree that the !showhistory playername command is better for the playerbase than the admins only !history playername. Even then it really only acts as a consensus tool to begin actually spectating a questionable player.
