Today, i've been warned by Angus for running around.
I know i was NOT running so i told him he was mistaken.
He responded by kicking me away without any other sort of answer.
I went back and told him again i was not running and that he should doublecheck before kicking people.
He responded by banning me...

I kept polite of course, you can check that in the logs if you want

That's really bad administration. If Angus is not willing to talk about his decisions and thinks he's all mighty and is never mistaken, he should not be admin at all...

I was playing at the same time. You got called out for running multiple times, and not just by Angus. Angus warned you at least 3 times himself.

I got warned once this warning by Anzac who thought i did 1 noisy step at a time from time to time. People even told Anzac that he was a bit fussy on that matter.

you were called out by several different players on nightfire for running, so you were placed on my radar. I watched you run behind the fountain and into the long hall as I was in the basement window. you were not being fired at. I warned you and you started with the "admin doesn't know anything stuff", I said to stop you kept it up you were kicked for no time. you came back in and started again, and got a 1 hour kick. you are a regular and you know the rules. so please play by them and we have no issues. When several players ask you and I ask you, and you feel so special that the rules don't apply to you, I will intervene.

Do you even realize that you're saying you know for sure what's happening on one end of the map from the other end ? Next time you want to kick/ban me, please spectate me so you can have a better insight of what's going on.

Considering you may be wrong is actually a personnal quality.

On nightfire, i was accused of running when i runned away from a nade and accidently run into a ennemy in the stairs. My reflex has been to knife him. The ennemy complained and i told him what happened which was ok with the rules. The next time i got warned is the time you kicked me apparently for an action where i got killed inside a building and was definitely not running at all. I just got caught in a fight between jon_tron and 2 or 3 ennemies and did not even had time to faire or move...

I am not a runner and i'm not a liar i like the server and its rules and respect them. Please focus on people who don't.

If you want to kick/ban me again, please make sure i don't follow the rules before. As you say it yourself, i'm a regular player and i expect a bit of respect when i'm saying i run away from direct fire or from a nade.

Next time, get proof before intervening.

Last night, I just warned to be careful of you feet and particularly quickstepping to a corner or to sight an enemy, this was after quite a few times I had witness this. I gave you no formal warning, just a verbal, as I often do to players.

But instead of you saying thanks and I will be more careful, you got fairly lippy, with a lot of backchat, but I let it slide.
But in reality, I should have at least trolled you and give more warnings, before any kick.

Admins dont go out of the way to give warnings, it is always for a reason and not just for the first infringement. Some people dont like to listen or wont take advisement. Be grateful and after all it is only a game.

In saying that, if I see you from now on you continually breaking rules, you get a warning, like any newbie.
Dont get upset, just take as advisement to change your habits and then you will stay of our radar.

I was one of the people who called you out. Why? Because twice on that map you ran to kill me. The first time I let it go because mistakes do happen, the second time I called you out. This was after others had done the same, and after the first time Angus gave you a warning.

Rather than apologizing, and correcting your gameplay you decided to get mouthy. Never a good idea. Frankly, you are lucky I am not an admin because if I were, and you decided to display your attitude with me as you did with Angus, I would have kicked you for 24 hours.

All i'm saying here is that i do not do the things i'm accused of and that it's a mistake. Just consider the fact that it MAY be possible. Nobody's perfect and that includes admins (and myself)

I am not gonna say "thanks" when i'm accused of behaviours i didn't do in the first place...

So i guess, you're the one i stabbed in the stairs... I told you what happened and it happened once, not twice.
Others accusing me of running on various occasions on that map just did not happen. Ask someone to get the logs out and check them if you want.

Yeah, i tend not to apologize when i'm accused of things i don't do, i try to explain what happened and why my behaviour is OK by the rules, just like any other sensible person would do i guess.

Anyway, spectating suspect players to see how they play is way more objective than trying to understand a situation from a stair case or from a basement window on the other side of a map...

Fraisoulle,

Here is what usually happens.

A player takes a few steps (or more) out of crouch, it is easy to do, sometimes it is a player under fire, sometimes it is not. Sometimes it is when you reload a pistol while walking upright while aiming down sights, you are running during the reload. Sometimes you are crouched through a river/stream and it forces you upright and you are running out of the stream, sometimes you just are not aware.

Bottom line, players will run when they are not supposed to. Everyone does. I do sometimes. Everyone in this thread has at one point in a game.

So, now you have to think about perspective. Another player or an admin might witness these lapses where running occurs. You may have run around a corner and the admin only sees you running without prior context. Now at that point what happens next is very subjective.

The player or admin that witnesses the running could:
* ignore the running
* call out the running

If they call it out, then there are many possible tones taken:
* PlayerX stop running - you know the rules
* Hey playerX - please press C
* announce PlayerX is running
* Ultimatum - PlayerX run again and you are gone

When we see any of these on screen, PlayerX is now on "admin radar", possibly because the admin witnessed it first or not.
So maybe admin/other players watch PlayerX with more scrutiny and they see other instances of "moving not in crouch" and then even more people call out PlayerX

When multiple people see this, it is statistically unlikely that the claim is baseless.

What happens next is now very subjective based on how PlayerX handles himself/herself:
* PlayerX could say "Sorry my bad" or "sorry, did not realize" or "got it" or could remain silent, and just take extra-care to ensure that they are crouched going forward
* PlayerX could deny any and all wrongdoing - This usually accompanies accusations of poor eyesight, bad adminning, and insinuating that others are liars, and tell them that THEY are in the wrong not PlayerX

Now as you can see if we have some players that do not like to be called wrong, sometimes they encounter admin that don't like to be called wrong.

If you encounter an admin that says PlayerX I saw you doing BLAH BLAH BLAH ... Why would any rational person argue with them? They saw what they saw and they believe with their heartand mind that what they witnessed is the truth and nobody is going to tell them otherwise.

So when a player argues with an admin what happens next is up to the temperament of the admin.
* You will get a warning
* You will get multiple warnings
* You will get kicked
* You will get kicked with time
* You will get banned.

Some players consider a warning as an egregious act against their honor and take issue.

Don't. Warning have no teeth behind them. Nothing bad happens when you are warned. You are still in the game and having fun. You can STAY in the game as long as whatever alleged infraction (even if baseless) is not perpetuated from that time going forward.

So rather than defending yourself, just understand that Good Cop, Bad Cop is a real thing, Good Player BadPlayer is a real thing, and all of the variations in between. On both sides people are in Good/Bad moods, have had a good or bad day, and all variations in between.

All OTaC members/admin are just players and they are unpaid volunteers. Adminning is not a JOB. They are here to play the game just like anyone else.

You can't change how other people act, you can only change yourself.

So when faced with conflict in game, I would like to see confrontations handled by players and admin alike in a manner that
DEFUSES the issue, not ESCALATES the issue.

That is two sided... and it only takes one side to DEFUSE any conflict.

My only goal is to have NO DRAMA and conflict ESCALATION is DRAMA.

So Fraisoulle, do you feel your interactions with all other players/admin involved helped to DEFUSE or ESCALATE the situation?

From what I have read that seems to be on the ESCALATE side of things.

When you ESCALATE, the admin may ESCALATE and sometimes you annoy the admin and they get mad and poof you are kicked or banned.

If you are kicked and come back, then you have a choice of DEFUSE or ESCALATE again, and kicks become bans.

I don't condone ESCALATION on the admin side. I wish it did not happen. However, a player will reap what they sow, and admin are not going to be perfect all the time just like players are not going to perfect all the time.
But I do agree with admin ESCALATION if additional infractions are observed after the player has been initially warned (by anyone)

It's just a game.
The game is supposed to be fun (and DRAMA free).

Let's all try to do better going forward .... on both sides.

I must say Bitter, your explanations here and in other places I've seen are on point, clear and concise. You could just close the thread after judgement, but you took the time to give a hell of an explanation and example. I applaud this type of admin'ing.

I totally agree

To close the subject, and because i think i got misunderstood about Anzac : i'd just want to add that i have no issue whatsoever with Anzac's behaviour : he warned me, he gave me time to give my point of view, he listened to me and tried to understand me and basically gave me some sort of presumption of innocence since it was delicate to judge + quite subjective + i'm a regular + i know the rules. This is good administration too and i'd like to thank him for that.
