Hey all!

Hoping someone here might be able to throw me a lifeline haha. I've been back playing for the last 2-3 Weeks (Steam version By the way) and its been great, however about 5 days ago i started having an issue where i open the game and i click "Find game" to open the server list it crashes.
Essentially ive lost access to the server list.

Has anyone had this issue before? Being a game this old theres no support so im hoping someone else might have the answer.

I have full access to every other part of the menu except the sever list

All drivers are up to date, Reinstalled twice (Different SSD's both times) from what i can see there was no windows update on my PC prior as the backup point is well before this issue came up.

Go to your steam account and clear the W@W game cache, I believe it's a steam issue and not a game issue. Hope that works for you, let us know.

Had the same issue, clear steam download folder and than go to sitemaps -
mods clear everything in mod folder restart and it should be fine. works for me all the time,

D:\steam\steamapps\common\Call of Duty World at War\mods

Thanks for the tips lads,

Unfortunately neither of these options worked. as soon as i click "Find game" I get the crash sound and "unhandled exception error" still.
I went as far as uninstalling my headset software etc as that had updated recently and no luck.
might just have to rely on game tracker and connect via IP all the time.

problem could very well be another program running along that causes the crash
like:
Teamspeak
Origin (EA games)
Overwolf
Any other overlay

See if you shut down any of the programs if it keeps you in.
Aslo check your firewall

Hey Rampant.

I thought so aswell, i also thought it was strange for it to suddenly happen out of the blue when i dont usually allow anything to auto update.
I'll double check it all again tonight and find out. I have an old restore point from Feb aswell so i might give that a go worst case.

Crazy how unbelievably annoying the no access to a server list actually is, even though i have the /connect <IP> saved on a hot key i always click find game before i remember its broken haha.

yeah its not a version issue. Shouldnt even be a Hardware issue

Its got me good. I'll just bind the IP's to buttons so i can auto connect. seems to be the easiest solution

it could be a hardware issue (I remember by 2009 I had crashes when adjusting the frequency sampling for sound to 48kHz or something like that).

You could try discarding the possibles issues with this check list.

from https://gamefaqs.gamespot.com/boards/944 197-call-of-duty-world-at-war/50243364

1. Update your sound card's drivers.

Self-explanatory. Windows told me that my sound card's drivers were up to date when I tried to update them automatically, but when I checked Realtek's website, I found out they weren't. The only way to tell is by going to your sound card manufacturer's website and checking for updates manually.

2. Turn off any modems you're not using.

Go to your Control Panel and Device Manager, then under "Sound, video and game controllers", disable any modems you see that you're not using. If you're like me, you don't have any modems at all in your computer, so keep reading.

3. Set the game to Compatibility Mode.

Find the .exe for CoDWaW or CoD4MW and right click it and go to Properties. Under the Compatibility tab, check the "Run this program in compatibility mode for:" box and then select "Windows XP Service Pack 2". I assume this only applies to Vista users.

4. Make sure your sound format isn't set too high.

Go to the Control Panel and the Sound properties. Find whichever device is your default one (it has a green checkmark next to it) and right click it and go to Properties. Go to the Advanced tab. Look for the Default Format drop-down menu. Set the value to 48000 Hz or lower (bit rate doesn't matter) and apply the settings.

5. Plug something into the microphone jack on your sound card.

Odd as it may sound, apparently this has worked for some people. It doesn't have to be a microphone, it can just be a pair of headphones or anything that will fit into the jack. Don't plug anything that's powered by batteries or otherwise into the jack, such as an iPod through an output cable, because it can possibly damage the sound card. A crappy pair of earphones will do the trick.

6. Enable Stereo Mix

This is what worked for me, and it's a really odd one. Go to your Control Panel and the Sound tool again. Click on the Recording tab. Right-click anywhere in the Playback Devices box and click "Show Disabled Devices". From there, enable "Stereo Mix".

from https://www.reddit.com/r/CODZombies/comm ents/m0uya8/found_a_fix_to_cod_waw_crash ing_after_startup/

I didn’t find this but i was looking so long to find it, i might aswell pass it along. So youtube vids didn’t help me but i found a comment from someone who figured it out. what does work is if u have razer cortex installed on your pc, it tries to “optimize” waw and that is what causes crash for me. So go to cortex and remove waw from the list of games to “boost”. If even that doesn’t work then try uninstalling razer cortex all together to see if it works then. I hope i helped someone by posting this

Update: online started to works flawlessly after I finished the campaign.

Hello!
One of the most commun fails is this.
the Server list is not working cause the Punkbuster is not given acces to the services or viceversa.-
So Do the next: Install/Uninstall the Punkbuster servvice and related and be sure in your settings PB is NOT activated
Then try to get the refresh list of servers and must be work.
If this dont works made same but ACTIVATE ON/OFF the Punkbuster and refresh once again the list of servers after do all this process.

Yes, i know, Punkbuster donst work anymore, but.... you know this always was a incomplete game, unfinished game in some ways and some users had this problem, me included, sometimes and this FIXED the issue with that.

Other althernative method is just delete and re-do or make a security back-up of your profile in your pc and just get the list again as new
or use that backup copy of your profile to do it.
My advice, is always have a copy in a safe place and if there is a problem just delete the folder Profiles and make this to solve problems

Sometimes this happens to with some server in favourites list or even with the config MP from your user, so the best way is do this backups profiles and keep in safe place.

Hope this help

Greetings from Spain!

Had the very same issue and this is what worked for me.
Find your COD WAW app folder. This is where mine was.
C:\Users\bob_b\AppData\Local\Activision\ CoDWaW
Delete this file.

servercache file It's a .DAT file

Once I did that I got right in.
