So Easter Sunday, poor Moo (and others) had her hands full with Killer237. He got multiple temp bans for everything from running to language, rules etc. He was basically testing every limit placed on him. I was amazed and then a little dismayed at how tolerant you guys are. It was really a drag for the rest of the compliant players to keep putting up with his crap. Another player L7(something else I forget) and SwiftasDeath began encouraging him and inciting others to lobby Moo to leave him in and griping about the rules. This went on for hours before he got the big boot. Killer eventually got banned when he kept telling everyone they were allowed to ignore the server rules and not to listen to Moo. These guys were all trolling and I know you don't like to kick folks, but when people see someone testing and being kicked repeatedly but coming back, it emboldens them because it looks like fun to poke the admin and the consequences aren't permanent. I hope you don't give Killer237 a second chance because he clearly lives just to antagonize and wasn't really playing at all. L7 and SwiftasDeath were walking a very fine line of disregarding/disrespecting Moo. I think you guys are generally patient to a fault, and I get it that you don't want to appear heavy-handed but I wonder if you have some kind of threshold where after say, 3 temp bans within an hour, for obvious intentional flouting of rules, you don't just make it permanent and begin the appeal process and save everyone a lot of trouble. I love the way your members were talking to rule breakers today and explaining why the server is the way it is. It's way more effective than "because it's our server" which other clans tend to do, and it actually seem to engender compliance because it's not so authoritarian, but when it comes to griefers that are just there to troll, I think you could stand to ban a lot faster- it's a different issue than someone who likes to push the limits and tries to run when they think no one's watching. Trolls make it miserable for others by making the game about them instead of the teams. Anyway, sorry for the wall of text, it's late and I'm too lazy to edit. Love you guys and your server, just want to keep it a fun place for everyone. I really do love the way you guys admin in general; these guys were just driving us all a little nuts tonight. |

I had banned L7 shortly after. I had recorded everything from about half of Asylum into Knee Deep into part of Hangar. Where people started expressing their distaste for L7 I had told him he could appeal his ban at our website. Where he then expressed his feeling is a simple way "F*** YOU!" that only added to it. He was banned, now as for SwiftasDeath as soon as L7 was gone Swift was quiet as a mouse. He understood my patience was worn thin. I have his information written down. He is on thin ice as far as I am concerned. |

Yeah, I had a feeling he was going to be hot on Killer's heels the way it was going. Nice work! |

We do discuss the balance we need to keep between being heavy handed and burdening the rest of the server with too much text. We try different methods of trying to talk disruptors down off of the cliff they have climbed. We feel that some players come in JUST to cause troubles (some, because they were roughed up on other servers). We try to show that we are a different kind of server and hopefully the player will recognize and climb down and enjoy the game. We all have our bad days, make our own poor decisions. I think you understand this, DrWu. Your comment is a good reminder and data point. I am glad you gave us your opinion. It puts a face on the frustration that you, as well as other players, feel. I don't think you will expect to see us start hammering trouble-makers from now on. Do understand that we are aware of the costs to players for our patient handling of non-compliant players. We appreciate the patience of our compliant guests as well. We hope that everyone appreciates and supports an environment were using the carrot instead of the stick benefits all people, whether playing games or living life. As admins let us not forget the cost to compliant players, as we demonstrate the benefits of patience, and strive for the best balance. ------------------ Something Really Witty!!! |

Again, I really enjoy the way you explain the reasoning behind your ruleset to people. It doesn't cause defensiveness or anger in players; if it does, that person is probably unreasonable or looking for an argument anyway. Moo and Mitsuke were demonstrating saintly patience yesterday. |
