Hey guys! In a year, I am supposed to go on an internship at a company, relevant to my major (Aeronautical Engineering). Since Aeronautical Engineering is pretty much just a specialized version of Mechanical Engineering. A Mech.Eng company will also be good. I am looking at local companies, such as KLM or Lufthansa. Although.... After high school, I wanted to a high school year abroad in the United States but I didn't have nearly enough money (imagine a 17 year old with 8000 bucks to spare ). Instead, I decided to try to get an internship abroad. I know it is very early but I honestly want to start with this as soon as possible. Now I still have plenty of time instead of having to stress at the end of the year. I decided to first try finding an internship on my own instead of a placement agency. To me, it shows more responsibility and that I try to handle things on my own. I think that is always a plus in the eyes of a potential employer. Obviously, my top picks go to high-profile companies (such as: Lockheed Martin, Boeing, Grumman). It is very hard to get an internship there due to sheer competition. It also seems to fun to intern at a smaller company (it may even be a startup, that seems like great fun too). My question to you all is: do any of you know anyone or a company who always is/are interested or might be interested in taking a foreign student as an intern? Or maybe you know someone who might know someone? One thing, it can't be a position where I need a security clearance, as I'm not a U.S citizen. My preference goes to the United States but I am open to other countries too. Last edit by subzjee at 2015-07-19 at 11:57 AM (1x Edited)

Thanks! I am really hopeful about it. My school is starting again in a couple of weeks. First thing I am going to do is go to the International Office of my college. Maybe they can help me out. Been reading up on U.S Immigration Law to prepare myself a bit for all the hassle that comes with the visa application, which might be a bit hardcore I reckon. I just got an email from the U.S Customs and Border Protection about the little details of the J-1 visa and the transferability to a tourist visa. I'm planning to do a little roadtrip through the U.S after my internship with my lifelong best friends. They will both JUST have turned 21 so that'll be fun. It's going to be a long road ahead of me but I'm sure it'll be fine. |
