Humber, that admin was me and my appearances in game are anything but rare. I don't usually play in the evening, that is correct. In answer to your criticism I would say that I don't normally see you in game during the daytime when i'm on so i'm not sure how you can discount my assertions that many are enjoying friendly fire and that it has made a difference in our attendance.
Now just to remind you, I did come into TS immediately after turning FF on as per request by Jman. The very first thing that I said as I came in, after being jumped on by two or three voices was that I'm not here to argue and I will not entertain the idea of arguing. I said that I am willing to discuss any aspect of this with anyone. Yes, I did error in turning it on without asking and I apologised for not checking of which you are aware because you were in TS at that time. I had a discussion with Jman regarding this and explained why I was running it daily, which nobody else has had an issue with. There is an off switch and can be used as easily as the on command so I don't see a problem there.
The entire idea here is to try different things to make an older game a bit more fresh.
I have tried to initiate various things over the last 2 years including admin meetings, COD4 server, running different weapons on odd maps etc and I always hear the same damned thing "that won't work", "Oh no not shotguns", "not this map" and on and on and on. What I do not see is very much help in trying out these things except for a very few interested admin.
Friendly Fire is an added attractant to the game and does not in any way take anything away from it. It actually lends to the realism factor that OTaC has been trying to achieve with our ruleset and weapons limiting. This isn't a catastrophe, and it isn't detrimental to the game. You're an admin, if when you come in and there are no other admin, or if the guests would like it turned off then by all means turn it off. You do have that ability. If those who play in the evening prefer to have it off then turn it off, it's very simple to do.
Yes, I has initially suggested it to be a Friday event, but with so many enjoying it I felt that running it during the day wouldn't cause any issues.
This isn't about what I like, as I said during the discussion which you heard. I also said that you you yesterday in TS when you mentioned FF. It has to do with what seems to be best for OTaC and the server as a whole. Have a look at my scores sometime, i'm in daily. You'll soon notice that I spend a great deal of my time actually admining, welcoming new players, setting up different maps with odd weapons and basically doing what I can to make OTaC server an enjoyable experience for all who join!

Agreed, the new feature of FF on the server has stirred up a better reaction than just Fridays warranted. It may be temporary and will become just a normal feature soon or it might be ever popular.

Maybe a little note on the entry message "Using Normal weapon rules - (FF Reflect/Shared/On)" as it's vague as to which state it is upon joining.

I've learned it's best, if you see any other OTaC online and wish to change it after joining it is a good thing to throw out there into chat your intention to change so other admin may weigh in. However, it shouldn't be too much of a big deal if an admin switches it and others disagree as it takes until the next map for the changes to come into play, which gives plenty of time to rectify a mistake.

Seems to me as if a small misunderstanding has been blown out of proportion, though that's just an outside eye onto the situation as I wasn't there.

That is harder since the settings are push not pull from the server.

I also think that the setting need not be controversial - it should not change how you play the game, except when you have a flamethrower.

Tom, can you add a setting to the bot where we can check what state FF is set to. Something like FF State to show if it's on, reflect etc?

Yes that already exists ......

Shoot at your teammate ....
if nothing happens FF=off
if you die/take damage FF=reflect
and so on, you get the idea....

I'm thinking by Spock's original reply to the question of such a command was that it is hard/annoying(maybe not possible) to get the bot to ask the server which setting it's using.
