Hey all,

You probably saw me quite often on the server recently thanks to the lockdown in France

When playing, we often see an entire team stucked in a given area and people re-spawn and re-spawn in the same place. This kind of situation tends to make it almost impossible for the "attacking" team to clean the area of ennemies.

I think a simple solution to make it possible for a team to clean an area of ennemies would be to make the respawn time a bit longer.

Currently, it's set to 4 or 5 seconds i think. Raising it a bit (but not too much of course) may be better (8 seconds ? 10 seconds ?)

At least, it may be worth trying to see if it changes anything...

While I appreciate the sentiment, I have seen servers where you die and wait 30 seconds to respawn, and then if spawn killed you are waiting minutes. When that happens I leave the server, since that is unfun. I would rather be playing and stuck in spawn than not playing at all.

To get out of spawn, throw smoke, your whole team can throw smoke. to push out.

You can also tell your team to stop pressing F until the enemy has killed all of you, then the spawn point will flip. If you are stuck the whole map then neither of the above has taken place.

Finally if the spawn won't flip and the attacking team won't advance, admin can
1. rotate the map
2. announce that we are switching to knife only and do so until the spawn trap is over, then switch back to normal


I don't think adding 5 seconds would have any effect as that number is subject to the number of players and whether any of them are camping in their own spawn.

Your hypothesis only works if the the entire spawn-trapped team can be massacred in under the respawn time of 8-10 seconds AND the opposing team has to push into that spawn physically so that it flips.
That is statistically unlikely.

I like the idea of switching the ruleset to knives only until the spawn has cleared. If we do that a bit more often we won't have the spawn anchor issues as much. Pavlovian conditioning!

It is even more statistically unlikely within 5 seconds as it's configured today...

Why don't you want to just try it for a week and see if it changes anything ? Afraid to lose 5 seconds of your life waiting for a respawn ?

I tried today and told all players to keep moving or it will be knife only. Worked for me......

Again, i second that. Even if i understand players would complain. I am playing different games
like BF2 MOD Forgotten Hope2. Respawn time is up to 25 seconds. If your teamkilled some1
it's even higher, but....! In BF2 you can switch classes/equipment, spawnarea, squads and
take a look at the map, waiting for respawn. So it's less anoying then it's usefull to have
this brake.

To me it's more an issue in case of how long should we test that and the most important "Is there someone
able to watch if it is working, or is there a way to measure if it is working. As long as we don't know how to
check, it's useless (almost...) to switch to a longer respawn times.

Maybe we can hire some "counting specialists" out of POTUS Trumps team, to make sure there is no
fraud in counting complaints about camping (postal complaints are extremly critical to deal...).
I guess from jan 20th there will be some, having a lot of time.

...sorry... couldn't ressist...

P.S.: BTW... fear the players, telling them to switch to knife only is also a good option, i guess
easier to realize. If we don't use that once per hour ( ), it may work.

The easier way is that all move around and dont camp ,hide in or shoot into Spawn Area or Spawn, make it a rule again or remove these crap maps like Cliffside from Rotation.

As usual when the server is crowded, yesterday's games were just about killing players getting ourt of spawn area. No way to advance properly because it's impossible to clear a sector of ennemies. Of course, no one triggered the knife only rule (actually, i'd hate the knife only rule )

It occured on Nightfire and Castle. I didn't stay longer to see how it went on the next maps...
